Bio

Renee Todd is a native of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Ms. Todd holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Maryland. While there, Renee served as principal trumpet in the Wind Ensemble, Drum Major and Section Leader for the Mighty Sound of Maryland, and received the Otto Siebeneichen Award for Most Outstanding Senior Musician. Ms. Todd is currently in her fifth year as Director of Bands at Ligon GT Magnet Middle School and twenty-fourth year of teaching music. Under the direction of Ms. Todd the Ligon Band program has grown to over 250 band members, with four wind bands and a jazz ensemble achieving superior ratings at both local and national music festivals. The Ligon Band was chosen to perform for the NC Music Educators Convention in 2015 and in 2016 Ms. Todd was awarded Band Director of the Year for the NC Central District.

Before her appointment at Ligon, Renee was nominated Teacher of The Year at Dillard Drive and at Wendell Middle. Under her direction, the Wendell Band program grew to three wind bands, and two jazz ensembles, achieving superior ratings at local and national festivals. Ms. Todd has served as site host for the Central District Band Middle School MPA and for the Wake All County Middle School Band. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the North Carolina Music Educators Association and Tau Beta Sigma. Renee is currently on the Board of Directors for the Central District Band Association.

Ms. Todd is an active freelance trumpeter, guest clinician and conductor for concert and jazz honor bands as well as a private instructor in the Triangle area. She has a private studio in Wake Forest and Raleigh. Renee performs with area orchestras, bands and brass quintets, including the Triangle Brass Band and Resurrection Lutheran Brass. She has also performed with the Triangle Wind Ensemble, North Carolina Wind Orchestra, Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, and Tar River Symphonic Band.
